Opening day of Missouri's November firearms deer season is Saturday, November 14, 2026, and it runs through November 24. Across southwest Missouri, that means early mornings on gravel roads, muddy field edges, and a lot of gear to haul. Whether you hunt farm ground outside Sarcoxie, public land near Mount Vernon, or a lease down toward Crane, the right vehicle makes the season easier. Here's how we help hunters in Sarcoxie, Joplin, Carthage, Monett and Aurora get ready.
Why a truck still makes sense for most hunters
A pickup is the classic hunting rig for good reason. A full bed holds stands, blinds, coolers and a cart without crowding the cab, and it is easier to clean after a muddy day. The Ford F-150 is the most popular choice here. It offers 4x4 for wet fields, plenty of cab room for a hunting partner, and the payload to bring a deer home. You can compare trims on our 2026 Ford F-150 page or browse every pickup on the lot on our new truck page.
If you also pull a side-by-side or a stock trailer, a Super Duty F-250 or F-350 adds towing capacity for the rest of the year's farm and ranch work. We currently stock 2027 Super Duty trucks in XL and XLT trims, including dual-rear-wheel models.
SUVs that handle the back roads
Not every hunter needs a bed. If your truck doubles as the family vehicle, an SUV with four-wheel drive can cover both. The Ford Bronco Sport fits easily on narrow farm lanes and still has room for gear. The Explorer Tremor adds off-road-tuned hardware with three rows for the family. Those who want the most capability can step up to the Ford Bronco. See what's available on our new SUV page.
Shopping used? Look for these features
A used truck or SUV can be a smart buy for a dedicated hunting vehicle. Look for:
- Four-wheel drive with a working low range
- All-terrain tires with good tread, or budget for a set
- A bed liner or tonneau cover to keep gear dry
- A tow package if you pull a trailer or ATV
- Clean service records, especially for the transfer case
Get your vehicle ready before opening day
Pre-season service matters as much as your rifle zero. Before November 14:
- Check the tires. Gravel and mud are hard on worn tread. Our tire finder makes it easy to shop.
- Test the 4x4. Engage four-wheel drive on a dry road for a minute to make sure it works before you need it in a muddy field.
- Check the battery. Cold pre-dawn starts expose a weak battery fast.
- Replace wipers and top off the fluids. Fog and frost are common on November mornings.
- Pack a recovery kit. Bring a tow strap, shovel and flashlight.
Book any of this through our online service appointment page.
Watch for deer on the road
November is the peak month for deer-vehicle collisions in Missouri, especially around dawn and dusk. Slow down on rural highways like Route 37 and I-44 access roads, use high beams when no one is coming, and brake firmly rather than swerving. If you do hit a deer, our body shop can help with an estimate.
